Saalbach – Premium Slopes and Cozy Atmosphere
Saalbach offers first-class slopes and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. After an adventurous day on the mountain, you can unwind in one of the many cafés, pubs, or restaurants. And for those seeking unforgettable moments, the legendary après-ski at Hinterhag is an absolute must – a true highlight for every winter sports enthusiast.
A Remarkable Ski Area Around Saalbach
Saalbach, Fieberbrunn, Leogang, and Hinterglemm together form one of Austria’s largest and most diverse ski areas. A wide variety of slopes, modern lift systems, and seamless connections between the regions turn every ski day into a new adventure.
Whether you're looking for a physical challenge or a relaxed descent – the area offers ideal conditions for every skill level. With a thoughtful piste layout, you’ll always find a route that suits your ability and brings joy to every run.
Hinterglemm
Skiing in this region began in the Glemmtal Valley, where Saalbach and Hinterglemm lie side by side in a truly picturesque setting. With its ideal east-west orientation, the valley offers some of the best conditions for winter sports.
The sunny southern slopes impress with wide, gentle runs. Red and blue pistes wind through scenic forests and past cozy alpine huts – perfect for enjoyable, relaxed ski days.
The shadier northern slopes are steeper and offer excellent snow quality. This is where the legendary World Cup runs of 1991 are found, where ski stars like Marc Girardelli, Stephan Eberharter, and Pernilla Wiberg made history. But don’t worry – there are plenty of options here for less experienced skiers as well. Thanks to the intelligent piste network, the entire area can be explored regardless of your level. A quick glance at the trail map will help you find your ideal route.
Leogang
From Saalbach, you can ski effortlessly into the neighboring Leogang valley. Here, you’ll find the impressive Nitro Snowpark and a range of high-quality pistes. Most of the slopes are located on the mountain’s northern side, which ensures excellent snow conditions.
Leogang is definitely worth a multi-day detour. With its diverse terrain and great places to stop for a break, you can enjoy a full day of skiing without needing to return to the main area.
Fieberbrunn – A Paradise for Freeriders
Since 2016, Fieberbrunn has been part of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region and has made a name for itself as a true freeride paradise. From Hinterglemm, you can ski directly into Fieberbrunn and enjoy unique off-piste experiences. Expect thrilling forest runs on snowy days and expansive open faces above the treeline when the sun is shining.
Although Fieberbrunn lies slightly lower in altitude than Saalbach, it benefits from more frequent snowfall. Its location further north draws in additional precipitation, and the shady slopes help preserve the snow in optimal condition for longer periods – a true recipe for unforgettable powder days.
A standout event is the annual Freeride World Tour, which underscores Fieberbrunn’s reputation as a top destination for off-piste skiing. But excellent powder skiing can also be found in other parts of the region. Especially on the southern side of the valley, snow often lingers, and the diverse terrain offers both steep and gentle sections. One major advantage: since most guests in Saalbach-Hinterglemm focus on piste skiing, you’ll often have fresh powder runs all to yourself.
